New Student Center Project on Track

As some of you may have heard we did not accept any of the bids that came in this past January. The reason was that the bids came in $7 million over budget. We originally thought this would set us back a semester. After making some engineering changes and breaking the building into two projects, the new Student Center Project is now on track.

Solicitation of bids begins April 30, 2007 for the first project. We will receive those bids on June 5, 2007. Construction of the first project will then begin in mid-June.

The first project (formally phase 1) incorporates the Center for Student Involvement, University Bookstore and food services. Our original goal was to have the first part complete in fall of 2008. We are pleased to tell you that we are still on schedule. The first project will be completed in mid-Fall 2008.

The second project is still being planned. We wanted to focus our efforts on getting the first project underway in order to make sure that students have a useable building in the near future. Once we have a schedule for the second project we will be sure to let you know.
